If I'm attending a conference in Dumbarton?

I'm hoping to attend a conference in Dumbarton, I'll be using public transport. Where should I stay? I've not been up that for years and my geography is a little hazy.

I'll travel up the day before and back the afternoon that it finishes. I will be travelling from manchester.

Thanks.

A moonlight flit Fabulassie! - Sounds awful but it's interesting, I used to get slagged off at Primary for living in Br'hill from the kids from C'hill! - the very cheek (it was actually fairly calm there! - Maybe they all went to C'hill for their fights!)

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 11:45

I've lived in Bonhill, Dumbarton, Jamestown, balloch. All around that lovey area Wink we all must know at least one person on this post.

Who knew so many of us came from there! For our sins clearly ConfusedConfusedConfused

Fabulassie · 20/01/2015 11:47

My kids went to the nursery in Bruce Hill. I'd say Bruce Hill looked a bit quieter than Castle Hill - I remember more larger semis with big gardens. Some of them were very nice over by the park overlooking the river.

I once gave a ride to a woman who lived in those bombed-out looking flats in Bruce Hill. I expressed surprise that any of them were still inhabited (I think maybe 2 were out of the dozen or so.) She said that the neighbours had "set fires to their kitchens to get moved." Apparently, that's a thing - want to move out of a flat? Let the chip pan run amok!

That place was just crazy.

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 11:52

Kato how old are you? I was probably on the corners with you lol

MWestie · 20/01/2015 11:52

I think the op may be rethinking her conference...Wink

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 12:15

Ha ha yes OP go to conference then head back to glasgow to stay overnite Wink

only kidding premier inn is still my suggestion! Handy for you!

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 12:17

Taxi from premier inn will be at most £6. And you'll get a comfy bed and a good breakfast!

Taxi from City centre will be about £25-30.

Squt I'm 33...

Madcatgirl · 20/01/2015 13:10

Hahahaha. Look at my thread! Happy to Have started a Dumbarton reunion.

It's not a business conference, but once connected with my hobby. It's being held at Clydebank town hall.

MWestie · 20/01/2015 13:18

Ahhh, Clydebank, now that's a whole new thread...Grin

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 13:28

What about staying at the beardmore? Or west highway is cheap as chips and very close too.

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 15:04

Remember the ship clock in the shopping centre? Stay at the West highway the go to the Boulie for a dance!

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 15:49

Haha I was just about to mention the Bouley for a curry, I was mates with the owners son at school and had many an exciting night in that place :o

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 16:32

Squtter... I think we may have went to the same school, at the same time!

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 16:57

Shock we wore blue..

I'm 28 so would've just missed you I think but my best friend had a big sister your age who used to babysit get drunk us with a big group of friends. Maybe you were one of them, or maybe you are her lol

KatoPotato · 20/01/2015 17:02

Oh gads...

yeah, was she so bloody cool and amazing? That's me.

What a crazy thread!

Tootssweet · 20/01/2015 18:35

There's no more dancin at the bouley it's a pub restaurant type thing now! I'm from the other end of town from you lot (& a lot older!). Sounds like you'd have been at school with my nieces.

Op thanks for the nostalgia fest! I would suggest staying near a train station & jumping the train to Clydebank station. My mum used to volunteer at the wee museum at the town hall.

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 18:36

I'm 31 and went to st Ronans for a period, I want to join the who's who game WinkWink

Sorry OP for your thread being derailedGrin

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 18:37

Anyone visit whiskey joes then the Boulie then back down to the nasty spot for chips cheese and kebab sauce??

Those were the days....

Appin · 20/01/2015 18:46

Well. I'm a Dumbarton escapee too, only I didn't escape. Actually love living here, close to glasgow and within ten minutes of Loch Lomond. Grew up here and bringing my kids up here too. But hey, go ahead and judge...

Where is the conference? If you're going to be there late you could stay at the premier inn in Dumbarton, but if you have any time at all in the evening I would head to glasgow, a bit more exciting!

Appin · 20/01/2015 18:51

And you can get trains to Dumbarton from Central or queen street low level.

Appin · 20/01/2015 18:55

Ah, just seen conference is actually in clydebank, that's not Dumbarton at all! The Beardmore would be my suggestion.

KissMyFatArse · 20/01/2015 19:02

Beardmore is nice, or what about the Radnor? That's cheap I'm sure

Squtternutbaush · 20/01/2015 19:30

Appin most of us have said we've still got family there etc no one was judging, just sharing our experiences of the area.

I was born and raised there and chose to move away when I was having my own kids for various reasons, it'll always be my hometown just not a place I saw myself living forever more.

Its like Rhod Gilbert says, I may say its a shithole but its my shithole and don't you dare diss it :o

Madcatgirl · 20/01/2015 19:33

The organiser originally said Dumbarton, but then updated it! Ok so the beard more or the Radnor. I'm travelling up on my birthday and will be staying that night. The conference is the day after.

Carry on reminiscing. It's lovely! Grin

I just remember heading on a train to Singer station, we tried to get in to Whiskey Joes and got spectacularly knocked back. We went back to Dumbarton to Nellies for long vodkas!
