Rye/Winchelsea/Camber Sands

Deciding where to go on our next cheap holiday park break from the newspaper deals.
Just us two adults so don't need any entertainment on site, are these areas interesting to visit for a few days? We have never been to the area before so any advice greatly received thanks.
We like walking, good scenery, lovely tea shops, pretty villages and towns, not fussed about beaches as we live by the sea.

Rye and Winchelsea are lovely. Great castle at Bodiam, Lewes, nice walk at Senlac (Battle), Dungeness - plenty to do with transport.

Rye is gorgeous - check out recent Mapp and Lucia series as this was all filmed there. There are loads of pretty villages in that part of the countryside.
Camber sands is a great sandy beach, Dungeness wilder and with the power station coast is weirder looking. The hotel the other side of Camber Sands car park is supposed to be good for food. The first place you come to from the road from Rye.

it's lovely all round there, we go every year.

Parking at camber sands is a pain and v. expensive, just a heads up.

Romney marsh is full of little quiet pubs. Can recommend one or two if that's your thing (including one quite strange one). That area is also the launch pad of the new 'micropubs'.

Lots of very old churches too.

The only thing we were really short of was good places to eat out in the evening without spending a fortune. Highly recommend the new Mexican place in New Romney - fab authentic food, all one price, bring your own drinks with no corkage charge.

Lots of nice tea shops around.

Would really recommend going to Rye Harbour - grim drive from Rye but once there there is a really lovely nature reserve, great walks. Wonderful view of the sandy beaches at Camber, heaving on a sunny day, while all is relatively quiet on the (stoney) Rye Harbour side. Winchelsea village is very pretty, nice pub. Winch else's beach great walks but again not sandy. Lovely lovely area. Hastings also worth a visit, old part and the funiculars fun as a trip out.

There is an amazing hot chocolate cafe in Rye. You choose the strength of your chocolate and they serve it in massive bowls.

errr, yes, interesting place (contaminated land/water with big warning signs everywhere!).
