Holiday in UK

Hi,
I think we'll be staying in UK for our summer holiday this year. I really want to go/do something different than caravaning in Devon and Cornwall. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful parts of the country and we had great fun caravaning there when the kids were younger. We've been abroad the last 2 years and fancy something different. Any recommendations for any great places to have our holiday in UK. I would prefer self catering cottage but am open to any suggestions. Kids are 4 and 7.

TIA

Porthmadog in North Wales is very nice with lovely long sandy beaches, walks and lots of kids stuff to do. even if the weather is rubbish.

The Isle of Wight is pretty and has a different feel to the mainland.

Northumberland - great castles and Hadrian's Wall.

Shetland is fab, though I imagine the older one may be bored if the weather is dreadful.
Lewis and Harris have amazing beaches (stay at the Blackhouse living Museum thingy).
