Butlins Minehead

Have done CP twice this year and while we have really enjoyed it we don't think there is a huge amount there for our toddler. More so if the weather is bad as the soft play area is tiny.

I am considering trying Butlins Minehead for a mid week break next spring.

On trip advisor a number of reviews state that public areas, toilets, bars etc smell of urine and vomit. I am assuming that this most likely occurs following their adult/music weekends, but it is really putting me off booking at all. I do think that they need too decide who their market is. Families or Hen/Stag do's etc.

Is Butlins really that bad? Have not been for approx 10 years and if it wasn't for DS I wouldn't even consider it. Have to say I did love it as a child, was that many moons decades ago.

We had a fab weekend there recently. Our chalet bungalow was a bit stale smelling but other than that it was all good. We didn't notice any stag/hen dos. I know that the concert weekends aimed at adults are separate to family weekends. The pool is amazing and they have a new fairground plus a little fairground for infants. I really didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. DD1 has not stopped going on about it, she thought it was awesome. Truthfully, I wouldn't go there if we didn't have kids but for them it is fabulous.

Thanks Jimmy.

I think the facilities sound great for kids but I am worried about the accommodation being grim and dirty.

I think the complaints about urine and vomit smells may be from family's who arrived just following a adult weekend piss up

We had a fab stay there nearly 2 years ago. Sooooo much for little people to do. We went during term time so quite quiet and no queues. I'd love to go again but think the prices for term time are a bit steep.

I've been to Minehead twice - never noticed vomit or urine smells!

Stayed once in the cheapest self catering apartment - it was clean but dated. Stayed a second time in a room with a premium dining plan - it was great, closer to the centre and the decor was less "tired". Have had no problem with cleanliness personally.

The kids love it - it's great that everything is free too. Pool, fairground, playground, soft play, lots of kids' shows. We didn't bother with any of the evening entertainment.

Minehead town is nice and has a lovely steam railway. Also a great beach right outside Butlins.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Whilst our accommodation was clean and tidy, I can confirm the big, family, entertainment space did indeed smell of vomit and state rugby kits - it smelt vile!

Whilst I was there in a party of adults, there were lots of families with kids there as well. Also, someone left a floater in the jaccuzi and the staff were just going to scoop it out with a dustpan Confused

Can't comment on accommodation but I went to Butlins at Skegness on a day visit today and was pleasantly surprised. Wasn't keen on the skyline bit as it was really noisy but the pool is brilliant and things like the toddler fairground and giant beach stuff were huge hits with Ds 2.5.

We love CP and are going for a week soon but in all honestly the pool looks a bit shabby compared to Butlins.

There was definitely a dirty nappy smell in the changing area but it is tots week so can sort of understand it.

Oh Yuck Mrsfluff, that is disgusting!

English for toddlers the pool at Woburn is fab.

Want to try Woburn but always end up booking sherwood as I can get there in about 5 minutes and its so easy!

We were there two weeks ago too and the main venue was vile. It really smelled bad. The weekend before we were there was an adults weekend though so that might explain it. We stayed in silver and I was pleasantly surprised. The kids loved it and are desperate to go back.

We normally do cp twice a year, but now dd is at school we thought we should check out cheaper options. Did a day visit to Butlins Minehead. It was ok, I preferred cp in every aspect, but dd loved it and wasn't bored. We booked for a break next year. Hoping it will be ok
