What to do in Bath area

DH and I are able to have a few days away together in late September - probably a Monday to a Friday. We are trying to decide where to go in the UK, maybe to an area we don't know so well.

I was wondering about Bath and the Bath area. All I know really is interesting buildings and Roman Baths. If we do go there can people recommend good places to see and visit and nice places to stay and eat.

What about the surrounding countryside as well as the city? We like walking and welcome any chance to get the boots on. We are not on an especially tight budget (although not rich as Croesus by any means Grin)

Bath itself is fantastic... Wander round the Royal Crescent, Circus, Pulteney Bridge to view the gorgeous architecture. I would also recommend a trip to Roman Baths to really get a feel of how the city evolved. The Bath Spa is an indulgent treat (rooftop pool, steam rooms etc.). You'll be spoilt for choice of good restaurants. Lots of boutique shops too.

There is lots of beautiful countryside within easy reach of Bath. Catch the train to Bradford-on-Avon (15 mins). Pop to the Tourist Info Office and ask where the footpath to Tory is... It's a beautiful rank of weavers cottages high above the town - beautiful views. Also a Tithe Barn and Saxon Church.

If you love walking then I'd recommend the canal towpath (or river path) from Bradford on Avon back to Bath. It's approx 7 miles - pubs on the way; The Cross Guns at Avoncliff or The George at Bathampton.

Have a great trip!

Bath skyline walk is fab
Le perla tapas lovely
Spa is actually quite reasonable price wise when compared with other spas. Go on a weekday morning - evenings get busier
If you want a dance go to the porter - finally found a nightclub for those who ahem are no longer students but is classy and fun
Good walks around wellow village near bath encompassing Stone Age long barrow lovely river etc
If you in national trust stourhead is stunning for walks
Agree Roman baths a must done really well
Check visit bath websites lots of festivals in bath in sept you might clash with jane Austen one took me by surprise streets full of bonnet wearing women!
