Romantic date in Oxford ... need help please!

First date in Oxford next weekend, we're planning on staying overnight. Any ideas of romantic things to do during the day and a good place for dinner, as well as maybe pre-dinner cocktails please (looking for nice food and super romantic/cosy but not stuffy)?

Would be punting be a silly idea? He's quite tall so wouldn't want him falling in the water due to losing his balance Smile!

Thanks a lot

I was going to suggest punting! I think it would be a lovely and fun thing to try.

Afternoon tea at the Randalph?

Oh really? So punting a good idea then? Do we grab a bottle of wine and just hire one?

Afternoon tea sounds lovely but we'll be too full then for a romantic dinner in the evening Wink

Forgo lunch and have afternoon tea about two..?

That might work Ivy; our first time in Oxford though so not sure if spending the day exploring the city might be a better idea...

What about a place called Angels for pre-dinner cocktails? Any good places to eat afterwards around that area?

Duke of Cambridge does great cocktails and has a reasonable happy hour. They have a sister bar off the high street but I can't remember the name. Pierre victores (can't spell it) is great French place. It was DH and my fave place.

Oxford kitchen in Summertown (5 min bus from city center) is amazing for food.
Pit rivers museum is fab for walking around and free. They have dinosaur skeletons which are pretty impressive. I'll keep thinking...

Pierre Victoire was our romantic dinner place when we lived in Oxford. Unpretentious French. Tehn across the road for ice cream and a walk in the gloaming!

Ohh lots of lovely ideas, thank you all!!

Pierre Victoire sounds just perfect, off to check it out in google...

How about Gee's or Cherwell Boathouse? Any of them as romantic as Pierre Victoire?

Haven't tried either. Honestly we often went to PV because the pre theatre menu is good value.

Well how did it go?
