Family Friendly Hotel Search Engine?

I've just spend about 3 hours trying to find a family friendly hotel (kids are 12 and 9) in the UK which is nice but not exorbitant for a late notice short break. I'm sick of typing in all the details and then getting rooms are based on 2 adults sharing only or exceeds max occupancy. Why can't I just search for a family room! Any recommendations for search engines ...? Or hotels within 2 hrs of Essex. Many thanks

Perhaps on the wrong side of exorbitant, but might be worth knowing for another time - Smith and Family.

I've done this recently, most hotel websites make their provisions for the accommodation of dogs easier to find than the arrangements for family rooms.
