Do children travel free on the tube/buses and is it best for me and dh to get Oyster cards? We will there for three days. TIA.

Quick answers: If they're obviously under 10 then yes, no problem.

You and DH will definitely be better with Oysters. Cash payments are much more expensive and while you can use contactless bank cards on buses now which charge the same fare per journey, Oysters will cap the amount you spend per day and the bank cards won't.
Everything after that depends on your DC's ages and how long before you travel. I recommend having a look at www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/ticket-types?intcmp=1663 , www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/ticket-types/on-oyster?intcmp=11504 and www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/students-and-children and seeing what would work for you. (Sorry to shower you with links!)

Don't worry - as soon as you've decided what you need, Oysters are easy! How old are they?

Nearly 7 and 9. They have never been to London and are really looking forward to it. I think we are going to look like a bunch of country bumpkins on the loose!

As long as you stand to the right on the escalators you'll be fine!
