Hi
Me and my 8 year old are thinking of spending a few days in Oxford this summer. Does anyone know what the local activities for kids are like?
Also, any insider tips on where to stay that's not massively expensive?

Thanks

There's a Youth Hostel in Oxford next to the train station and a Travel Lodge on the outskirts (on a good bus route into town) - I'm not great on places to stay though, I'm afraid, as I live here! Lots to do though - walking tour of Oxford (usually includes a college or two), Ashmolean, Pitt Rivers Museums, Story Museum, punting on the river, Oxford Castle, St Michaels/Carfax Towers to climb (fab views on Oxford on a clear day). A little further afield, Blenheim Palace (Woodstock is easily accessible from Oxford by bus) and Cotswold Wildlife Park. If you let us know your dc's interests, I might be able to suggest other specific things.

Thank you for the advice.
I will get searching for accommodation.
Is there a decent pool in Oxford?

Have a look at University Rooms for accommodation - staying in one of the colleges, good fun and cheap.

The closest pool to the centre is in Summertown, a couple of miles out, but its a bog standard pool. There's an ice rink in the city centre (or there was), but walking round colleges and museums and parks and the market will pass a lot of time enjoyably for you both. I love Oxford.
