We wanted to go at Whit half term, but Glengorm is fully booked already

So we're going the last week in July instead.

Dh is now paranoid that the reason Glengorm's so heavily booked is because it is jam-packed with mumsnetters!

was it raining?

roisin · 23/08/2006 17:03

It hardly rained at all
We had far better weather than the majority of the UK!

We did get completely drenched out walking one day, but with a real fire and a w/m + tumble drier to come back to, it didn't really matter!

Oh fab- I'm so glad you enjoyed it. We owe a big debt to milge

Beetroot · 23/08/2006 17:12

sounds fun. although, as much as i like the idea, i cannot tear myself away form that sun that you get in France and Greece

roisin · 23/08/2006 17:12

Yes, we loved it. I thanked Milge and you here but I don't think anyone's seen it yet.

We also had absolutely no midges

Beetroot I'm not a sun-worshipper, and loathe crowds! The boys are now much better at travelling (9 hrs - including ferry crossings and stops - back from Mull); praise be to Gameboys! So we can now contemplate Europe, but from here 9 hrs would only get us to the South Coast of England, so it still doesn't really appeal greatly.

Anyway, how did your trips/long drives go this summer?

roisin, one day you should take your family to the Greek mountains. even in the summer it is cool. you can go for long walk, swim in river pools. sit and drink in the local cafe...I go to a place 4 hours drive up a mountain from Athens but it is idyllic and not at all crowded, infact we are the only tourists!!

UrsulatheSeawitch · 24/08/2006 11:35

Glad you had such a great time, roisin! My neighbour is off to Shetland at the weekend, We are hoping she will also get different (ie better) weather

There was something in the news about midges in the last few days - they have had a very bad year because of the weather or something - will try and find it for you.

UrsulatheSeawitch · 24/08/2006 11:37

too hot and dry for the poor dears

roisin · 24/08/2006 21:29

Thanks Janh - mystery of the midges solved!

Beetroot · 25/08/2006 17:35

Roisin, do you like the idea of the Greek mountains?

roisin · 25/08/2006 21:16

I do like the idea of Greek mountains Beetroot, but I don't at all like the idea of getting there.

I also feel ridiculously vulnerable if I don't speak the language at all!

When they are a bit older I definitely want to travel more/further; but can imagine going to Iceland or Turkey sooner than France or Spain.

OP posts:
moondog · 25/08/2006 21:18

Don't come to Turkey. It'ssweltering (unless you come to the mountains where I am,which is lovely.)

roisin · 25/08/2006 21:22

When's a good time to go to Turkey Moondog? I'm certainly not a heat-lover. We went to Western Turkey - nr Ephesus - years ago in early May, and it was quite hot already then. Does it get cold/wet in the spring/autumn/winter?

OP posts:
moondog · 25/08/2006 21:41

Anytime after October would be nice, even on the Med ( even cheaper than usual and very few tourists apart from locals)
We went to Side last November and it was just warm enough to swim in the sea and cardy of an evening sort of weather.

I hate heat too.

roisin · 25/08/2006 22:11

Ooh - sounds fab! I will store that idea away in my mind for future reference.

Thanks Moondog.
