Legoland Windsor in October

DS is begging to go to Legoland. We looked last year but were shocked at the prices! I'm self employed and have a few good months of work coming up so think we may be able to afford it. We are a family of 4, 2 adults, 2 kids age 6 and 3 travelling from Scotland probably by car. Is it worth going in the October school holidays, it's just a week or so before it shuts for winter? Would hate to travel all that way to find most of it shut due to the time of year anyway.

If the park is open them most/all of the rides will be open (unless they have broken down).

The place is very busy in all school holidays

As you have a really small child I would suggest maybe trying to go in the summer - they have a water splash bit for younger children and also you get wet on some of the bigger rides.

You can usually get good 241 deals for legoland - look out for them on cereal packs

I live near Legoland and have always had season passes bought with Tesco vouchers. My DCs are 7, 5 and 3 and we've had many happy days out here. However last year it was so busy with such bad queues that we didn't enjoy it and actually got quite stressed! Not like us at all. I think the hotel has made the park busier than ever. We're debating not renewing our passes for the first time since having kids. I hate being negative but I wouldn't dream of travelling so far for Legoland or paying the crazy prices. If you do decide to come, October will be fine, everything should be running but don't expect it to be quieter. I hope you have fun.

Kelloggs cereal are doing adult free entry for every full paying adult basically BOGOF and McDonalds are doing half price family entry tokens. I dont know if you are getting these offers in Scotland. I have a stack of them, happy to send you some in the post. Let me check when they are valid till. I went early October last year for my son's birthday, weather was lovely and they even managed to play in the Duplo splash zone.

Just checked valid till the 3/11/2014, just let me know if you want it. I dont want anything for it just glad to help somebody

Thanks very much for the advice and honesty! Thanks for the offer baking but we have a few of these tokens already - I think that's why DS is begging to go, he sees it every morning when getting breakfast!

we went last October Scottish holidays, was great! park not open the full week, we went the Friday and Saturday at the end of the week. was v quiet on Friday and although noticeably busier on the Saturday still OK. stayed at the legoland hotel which we liked, got room only deal off Expedia (which includes breakfast) and used vouchers Inc. clubcard ones for entry, no issues with that.

It's awful, sorry. Hellish queues, stressed and rude parents, hyper kids, terrible food, much of the park old and dated. That was on a weekend out of holidays. If my DS really wants to go again I would save up for a trip to the good one in Denmark.

I'm going to try to be more constructive. If you were to make a trip to some more places out of it (London etc...there is lots you can see for free) then I'm sure you would all have a great time and there are always offers on for tickets, especially out of season. It just seems a huge trip to make to only go to legoland.

I disagree. we also Did London and it cost us a fortune! I promise we only Did cheap stuff but all the eating out etc. was terrible and it's difficult to get cheap accommodation . if you stay at legoland hotel I actually think the food was fine. breakfast buffet was good and I made sarnies for the kids from it, dh and I too full to need lunch. my kids age 7 and 3 had a blast, Yes some bits were dated but I can assure you they didn't notice!

Thanks Higgs and woodland, very helpful. I'm not expecting that I'll love it tbh but I really think DS will and that's the main thing!
We'd like to stay in the hotel, I didn't realise you could book it separately and haven't had much luck finding anywhere that does. It's coming in at £635 for 2 nights b&b with park tickets included. Does that seem an awful lot?

we paid 350 off Expedia for two nights (Thurs and Fri) and then only £80 for tickets using offers. the Expedia Price was a corporate rate, so you could try that side of their website? no difference in terms of room or food or anything. the hotel was full, millions of Scottish kids and a few bemused English pre schoolers!

I used to go to Legoland every year with DH - sadly we live a bit too far away now. We always used to use our Tesco club card points to get free tickets- I assume that you can still do this. Legoland is fantastic, but I'd recommend taking your own picnic - everything inside is rather pricey and not all that tasty either! I personally wouldn't stay in the Legoland and find a B & B in Windsor. Windsor itself is really interesting. There's a nice park, nice shops and some good restaurants. If I were you, I'd try and visit earlier in the year as you really want good weather to really appreciate it- especially the water rides.

I agree with Spag. I have 9yo and 2 to DS's they ADORE Legoland. We have annual passes we buy with Tesco club card points. We do always try & visit out of school hols - Inset days are a fab option. We always take packed lunch and I would not stay at the hotel - it seems v expensive to me. Windsor is a lovely place to stay and very close. I don't think it looks dated at all. New rides most years & 4D films etc. I prefer to other theme parks.

At the time nectar had offer on to exchange points for tickets and we also stayed in a premier inn less than 10 main drive away with a buffet breakfast to fill up on for the day. I personally don't see the point in forking out for the resort hotel that is something I would save for Disney.

We are planning this October as well in the scottish holidays. We are looking at travelodge in Windsor.

Do you collect Nectar Points? We do and go once a year where we use our nectar points to pay for the tickets, then we stay at a travelodge overnight.

We also use Qbots to cut down the hellishness, but I know they are a big no-no on MN. If you are going out of English school holidays it may not be so hellish.

I echo what someone else said about going to Denmark.
We went last May half-term, using cheap lights to Billund and a package deal staying at the holiday village.

I can't praise it highly enough, in comparison to LLW as it is now.
