Have you stayed in Mevagissey, Cornwall?

Last year we stayed in a lovely cottage in Norfolk, that was recommended by you clever people. So I've come back to pick your brains - we are thinking of going to Cornwall this year, and I really like the look of Mevagissey on the South coast. Can you recommend a cottage in that area - needs to sleep at least 4 and preferably have some outdoor space?

And do you recommend Mevagissey? We want to be walking distance of shops and places to eat, and a short drive (or a walk) to a beach, preferably one with rock pools to keep DH happy. DCs are 5 and 2

We are staying at the old chapel this time but there are lots of lovely cottages there.

Good restaurants, tea rooms, little beach, fab boat trips, fishing.

happy memories of childhood holidays, my boat mad DDad often finished the day with fish and chips in
Mevagissey so he could have a mooch round the harbour. Lovely place.

Also my Welsh board Geography map work O'level paper was costal features just out side Mevagissey.

Love it there. We stayed at Pentewan Sands, near Mevagissey. Best holiday ever.

Close to the harbour Ruprekt, in a little cottage (not helpful - they are all little!) with a roof garden and harbour view from there, it's looks about 1 street back on the pictures. The DCs are more excited about the roof garden than anything else! It's called the Sail Loft. I've googled the Old Chapel, it's gorgeous

I grew up there!
The model railway is good if you have train-mad DCs.
For beaches Hemmick or Vault ( Vault involves a short walk over the cliffs so is more deserted).
Generally I would avoid most of the 'attractions' in those parts- over-priced and rubbish- with the notable exceptions of Heligan and the Eden Project. You can walk up to Heligan through the woods from the village and it has a great farm shop for self catering.
The best pasties are from the bakers on the Square- they are Proper.
And I would also recommend the Portuguese restaurant- Antonio uses lots of fresh local seafood.
