Beaches Near London?

I'm looking for beaches to recommend to my niece and nephew, who are visiting. Criteria:

• easily (cheaply) accessible by train or bus from East London
• nice, interesting, maybe trendy?

Lots on the Kent coast, some tackier than others. There's a recent thread somewhere, I'll have a look see.

Oh, taa, I did look in the top few of Travel: UK, but didn't find anything suitable ...

just bumped two threads for you. I love Westgate and West Bay in Kent. Nice clean sand and all you need for a jolly day by the seaside!
