how close to the start do you need to be?
what is your budget?
will you have a car?

northender · 25/07/2006 20:46

Yes we'll have a car. Budget would have been lowish but in the circumstances will have to be higher! dh will have ds and dd with him so need to be fairly handy for the course/finish but not necessarily the start iykwim!

my dh is doing the great north run. we live in the area but not in newcastle but dh will be travelling up there - not in car - as parking anywhere near the startline or finishline is an impossible dream. if you were to stay nearer where we live, he could chaperone you back and forth as he's done the run so many times, he knows the fastest ways to get to and from the run. it means that accomodation where we are would be cheaper.

Ooh a chaperone kiskidee that sounds great! I'm running on my own so a hand to get sorted at the start would be fab! Wherabouts are you?

i am just outside a little town called Seaham - about 15 mins south of newcastle if you were driving. there is direct rail link to newcastle and then he and other runner friends of his will be walking to the starting line. he would also be more than happy to make sure you got back safely as he is that kind of a bloke. would offer you my spare bedroom but he's already offered that to a mate and his wife as she will be running. I could offer you a mattress on our living room floor or offer or the name of a hotel in Seaham.

Have you looked in Durham? My db did it a few years back, and stayed in Durham and got the train over - I think train to Newcastle then metro to start.

northender · 25/07/2006 21:14

hotels in Seaham would be great as I think my friend and her dd are going to come as well.

let me know if you booked or made other arrangements or need the name of somewhere else.

northender · 25/07/2006 21:40

Are there good public transport links to Newcastle from Seaham? Friend's dd wants to do the junior run on the Saturday which I think is in Newcastle. Harbour View have rooms!

you can walk from Harbour View to the rail station in Seaham which has direct links to Newcastle. All the trains between Newc. and Seaham go that way. It is a small station but will have a train at least every 30 mins during the daytime on a Saturday.

kiskidee · 25/07/2006 22:41

meant to say "between Newcastle and Middlesborough"

popsycal · 26/07/2006 20:18

there are several travel lodges slightly out of newcASTLE....close to me.

But if you want to be near to the end rather than the beginning then that is a different matter....
