Hi all

I'm off to Glasgow next week with my boyf, my friend and her husband. We were at uni there so know the city pretty well. We'll do all the old faves like Kelvingrove Museum, the art galleries etc but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of anything fun to do that has popped up in the last five years or so? Also eats and drinks!! (nothing too expensive though...)

We'll be mostly in the city centre, the West End near the uni and on the south side as we have friends there.

We're staying in an apartment by Glasgow Green so anywhere near there that would be good to go for food on our first night would be good to know!

For activities try Xscape at Braehead. Have fun,

Go to the Italian Café in Merchant City if staying at Glasgow Green. Fab food. Always busy though so might need to book. Loads of good pubs around there too.
There's also one of those Tepinyaki places on the edge of the Merchant City as you walk along to Candleriggs. Lots of live cooking at your table.
Glasgow Green hosting an Octoberfest this weekend but think it might finish on Sunday.
Also on Glasgow Green is West Brewery. A brewery and bar on one site. Near the People's Palace I believe and pretty popular.

Mother India Café across the road from Kelvingrove when you're in the West End, but that's probably been around longer than 5 years.
Also Oran Mor at the junction of Byres Road and Gt Western Road, but again was probably around when you were.

The new transport museum (Riverside Museum) is fab and free and sits just over the water from the Science Centre just off the Clydeside Express Way. Loads to see and access to the Tall Ship outside. The open top bus (brrrr!) stops at the Transport Museum. The New Scottish Hydro Arena is also nearby (beside SECC and Armadillo), but don't know if there's anything on next week or if there would be tickets available.

The East End is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games and if that way inclined you could drive to have a look at the new Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome/Emirates stadium/athletes village etc. Don't know if you would get inside though.

If in the SouthSide and fancy a bit of undercover shopping Silverburn Shopping Centre is pretty good. Shops open fairly late and lots of eating places later still.

Can't think of anything else obvious that has popped up in the last 5 years but then I don't get out much!

Hmm - go to Queen street station and get on a train to Edinburgh :o

She'll need to make sure 'she'll have had her tea' though before she does soontobe

of course, she can stop off at a chippie and get decent chips with proper sauce and none of that vinegar malarky ;)

but oh how I miss proper sauce and shops where irn bru isn't the only beverage on offer

oh, and a decent white pudding that doesn't clag to the top of your mouth...
