Caister nr Great Yarmouth - what's it like?

Umm, I'm off for a drink at the Castle in Caister in about 3 mins.......it's quite nice - what sort of things do you like?
Where are you staying?

We loved it and took Ds last September when he was 3 months old,so it was his first holiday.
We stayed at the Haven holiday park which was also very good and would definately recommend it.We'll probably go back there again at some point next year.

I think of Caister as more of a suburb of GY

I like Sea Palling (but that might be too far from the station)

Places like Winterton are lovely - I ask my friend tomorrow and see if I can find you somewhere quiet

Sheringham or Cromer? On an extra branch line 1 hour from Norwich...and beach not so sandy as GY / Caister, but you would be v near the fabulous sandy beaches of places like Wells.

Caister is fine, but I agree it is a bit like a suburb of Yarmouth. As an ex local, I would recommend Sheringham as above. The beach is lovely, and if the tide is in you can go to other local beaches, is a steam train, Norwich only an hour away and the castle is good there.

Was just suggesting Overstrand on another thread. there is a caravan park called ivy farm, which is right by a beautiful beach. it's a lovely village with several little shops, pub, cafe etc. fishermen still go out crabbing every day etc. they have spaces for tourers and Cromer is within walking distance (train station there) and has a cinema, shops, fish and chips etc. let me know if you need any more info as I live fairly locally.

We stayed at the Haven Holiday Park last and had a great time. We did not actually do much in Caister but visited the surrounding areas. We went into the Great Yarmouth twice and enjoyed it, despite the tackiness! The surrounding areas are beautiful (pretty villages, Norfolk Broads etc).

The DTS were only 16mo so it was suitable for us. I was really impressed with Haven and plan to go on another Haven holiday next year.

There are some lovely beaches jsut up the coast from caister, can't remember the name, maybe scratby area. It had a nice beach and shallow water for a long way out so it great for kids, someone local might know it. Caister beach is all dunes, and there isn't much else in caister. I can remember a castle and a motor collection. I also liked takign the kids to california. Close to great yarmouth will be ideal for keeping the kids entertained, plus you are only half hour from pleasurewood hills or even Norwich (castle museum is good for kids). It isn't even too bad to get up the coast to sherringham, hunstanton etc. I'd say caister is quite central and a good choice.

I grew up in gorleston, jsut the other side of caister.
