wistfully thinking ahead to future holidays and would love to find some sort of accommodation where you can walk out of the house and be on the beach.

does anyone know of anything likely to fit the bill? I've heard of someplaces in Scotland but unfortunately that's just too far for us. would prefer somewhere south, southwest or Wales.

anyone care to share? Smile

Yes, West Wittering. South coast near the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. We had a week there in May and there are a few places to rent on the same street, all with the beach behind, many with their own gate onto it! Lots of kite surfers and windsurfers to watch.

Expensive, but Helpful Holidays have apartments at Bigbury on Sea in Devon which might suit. We stayed in one just after DS2 was born so we could pop on and off the beach.

There is a house right by the entrance to beach at Portreath. Not sure what it is called now but I was very jealous of the holiday makers staying there.

We stayed in a house in Borth earlier in the year. It had a small back garden with a gate that opened onto the beach. It is a stony beach though if that matters. Sandy beach was a couple of minutes drive out of the village.
This is it www.welsh-cottages.co.uk/search/pty_search2.php?propref=577
The décor was a bit random and it was cold in May with no central heating, so it isn't the right house for everyone, but all the houses on that side of Borth High St had gardens that backed onto the beach and I expect most of them were holiday lets.

Have a look at Aberfforest in Pembrokeshire (or give the guys at coastal cottages a ring for advice). The cottages are up a private track but that's the only road access to the beach so it's like your own private place ...and there's a waterfall too. Special place.
