Farm holiday

Anyone have any recommendations for a farm holiday? I have mixed ages to cater for (between 7 and 12). I am really looking for something that the children can join in. I have been to Cwmiar in West Wales which we loved, and Holwell in Devon which was mixed (gorgeous surroundings, but not so child focussed on the farm itself). Would go back to Cwmiar, but thought it would be good to try somewhere new.

Suggestions gratefully received!

Farmer James, in Cornwall gets the children helping with feeding animals in the mornings. There are lovely beaches to go to in the afternoons.

Farmer james looks lovely, but sadly no room. The nice thing about it is that it has a small number of cottages so is not overrunw ith guests. Coombe Mill and Bosinver look lovely and have space for us. They have good Mumsnet and Tripadvisor reviews. The only thing is they are big (c20 cottages) and are no longer working farms. But the other side of the coin is that you can't offer guests much attention if you are a working farm. These big places look quite slick, they have lots of shipped in animals so loads for the children to do on site. That was what I loved about Cwmiar, our nicest days were those spent on the farm, there was a lovely communal bbq and play area so it was very sociable and we had a glorious picnic by a stream and climbed the hill for 3 hours. The farmer was a wonderful gentle soul. I would have liked to have seen the working side of the farm, but there wasn't much opportunity for that. They are fullly booked too. I do recommend these farm holidays, they are so relaxing. If you find the right place, you don't really need to go anywhere other than the farm (provided you get the right weather).

Hi OP, have you tried Tredethick ? We've been twice and are booked to go again this summer. Really great.

We've been to Bosinver, it was lovely but to be honest there were just a few token sheep, goats, chickens and ponies. It's not really a working farm.

We had a fantastic time though, they have a wild kids club where they make dens etc in the woods, an adventure playground with zip wire, a playground for younger kids, an indoor soft play barn, pony rides once a week, and animal feeding time every morning. The cottage we stayed in was great, really well equipped, and it's a great base for visiting most of Cornwall too.

Thanks for the suggestions, I hate booking holidays, I find it really stressful. I hadn't come across Tredethick, it looks lovely, and a bit smaller than the more commercial ones which I would be more keen on. It's jam packed full, a good sign, and I shall definitely file the name away for next time! Have booked Coombe Mill, so fingers crossed. It is, apparently, still a working farm. I suspect it will be a bit like Bosinver with shipped in animals. But as long as the children are occupied and it has a sociable atmosphere I'll be happy!
