What's the best way to drive with a caravan to Portmerion (Porthmadog)?

I'm working there next week and will be driving from the west country with my caravan.

I've looked at the map and there seem to be a few arrowed roads on the way there. Has anyone done this and can they offer me any advice?

I'm wondering about going up the M5 to Stoke on Trent then vis Oswestry, or is it ok to take the A470 all the way?

Not entirely sure what an arrowed road is but I think that going via the M5 will take you out of your way considerably. The roads beyond Llangollen up the A5 are pretty twisty and narrow in places too. Not sure what the road you'd take to cut across to Porthmadog would be but they will probably be small country roads.

We were up in Snowdonia over the holidays and travelled from Aberystwyth via Machynlleth, Dolgellau etc. The main hilly bits were around Corris but you would avoid it if you stick to the A470. There are some roadworks this side of Dolgellau but it is more delays due to single file traffic rather than bad roads. Once through Dolgellau the road was excellent (much better than ours in Ceredigion!).

Thanks, think I'll try the A470 then.
