Looking for reccomendations please. Looking at a 4dayish break, just me and dp. Neither of us drive so we need to eb able to get there by public transport.

We like walking, eating, museums...like trying new things too!

If anyone could point me in a good starting point that would be great. Any websites that have nice hotels or B&bs, or somewhere you've been to that's totally off the beaten track?

We fancy Scotland or Cornwall! But happy to try any in between too Smile. I would really love somewhere coastal.

Tenby's on the train, IIRC. And lovely.

DH and I had four days in the Cotswolds last year. That was very nice. Quite touristy though. I'd love to go to Bath but it's a bit of a long way from where we are. Looe in Cornwall is lovely. I went there years ago but only for the day. Not sure about getting there on public transport though.

Thanks, wasn't expecting such quick replies!

We are in the Cotswolds, so looking to go a bit further afield, but yes it is very nice here.

Will look up Tenby and Looe.

Why not base yourself somewhere pretty on the South West Coast path - not many museums but lots of lovely walking. Weymouth or Lyme Regis - or much further west to Salcombe?

Brighton, St Ives, York, Edinburgh.

Can't beat Edinburgh. Stay in the Nira Caledonia in Gloucester Place; loads to do, nice places to eat, all within walking distance.

Gosh I don't know where to start. Confession- I haven't been on holiday for 10 years. Is there a website where I could put in dates and see what comes up? Well, I mean of course I know there is, but could anyone recommend one that offers good value for money?

Edinburgh is fantastic for a long weekend.

Try Expedia.com to find a hotel

Personally avoid Weymouth, Swanage could be a better bet, train to Wareham and then you can bus it down there, lovely walking, Corfe Castle etc.

York!

janek · 13/05/2012 16:43

borth? or anywhere on that trainline from birmingham to aberystwith/up cardigan bay?

redhappy · 14/05/2012 16:22

We've decided on Tintagel. Besides the castle, would love to hear of anywhere nice to stay or visit around there. Thanks so much for everyone's replies.
