Blackpool - tack city or a good old fashioned holiday for the kids?

What do you think? Used to go as a child, wondering if the kids may like it this year? Anyone been recently? Where did you stay? Was it any good?

The only place where you can buy a stick of rock and a dildo in the same place.

IMO it's not very nice.

There are so many other brilliant places to go with kids - north Wales, the lakes, Cornwall, Devon etc. Agree with utterly - its a great place for teenagers/ young twenties and stag/hen weekends but holidays with kids?

SparkyTGD · 10/05/2012 12:54

Very similar but not so 'Blackpool'-ish Grin is Scarborough, old fashioned bucket & spade stuff, donkey rides on the beach etc.

Have a look at Cromer, north Norfolk. Good old fashioned sea-side town. No filth.

Awful, expensive, tacky, cold and full of hen/ stag dos. Fun for a day, but I wouldn't stay there.

We had a nice time there last year

we had went on a cheap sunholiday

went to blackpool zoo (there is a soft play centre net door, our 2m baby was not big enough to go)
also the beach

there is lots you can do with tesco vouhers

we went expecting the worst but will be going back (maybe next year or else the year after for sure)

As an ex-local who still visits family I would love to recommend, but really don't feel I can. As mummymeister says, there are so many better places to holiday.

I used to love going to Blackpool as a child but it feels really depressing now :(.

Having said that, I haven't been for ages as the last time we went it just seemed so dull. There's a Nickelodeon land at the Pleasure Beach now though. That might be worth a look?

Sorry, but I agree with 2cats. I loathe Blackpool. Last time we were there I felt as if everyone was out to fleece me. It is the tackiest, most unpleasant seaside resort I have ever visited.

No. I have a friend who was brought up there, on one visit last year they were in the shopping centre and came out to find a bloke stripped naked by his 'friends' on his stag weekend. As she said no other town in the UK would you find a naked man on the high st in the middle of the afternoon.
