Dh and I unexpectedly have the chance for a child free weekend this weekend, and want to go somewhere we can hole up with nice food and preferably a fire and wifi for the weekend. Any suggestions? We would have to leave Friday night and back on Sunday. WE normally go to SUssex but can't face crossing London traffic so are thinking north or east. Any ideas?

You' d like the Three Acres on Emley Moor, near Huddersfield. 2 hours from King's Cross to Wakefield Westgate, then 20 mins taxi.

You could try the Angel in Lavenham in Suffolk - very expensive though. Bradford On Avon is lovely about 2 hours from London although not North. We've stayed at the priory steps www.priorysteps.co.uk/ which was lovely although it was a few years ago.

Wow, these places look lovely. Emley Moor is definitely one for later in the year. And I've earmarked The Angel for an anniversary. Pink Teddy (hello!) We've booked priory steps - its gorgeous. We decided to drive in the end as train fares are so high. Can't wait.

Let me know what you think of priory steps. Bradford on Avon is lovely too. We used to go to the Angel regularly prior to kids but now its been taken over by Marco Pierre White the prices have gone through the stratosphere!

We didn't go to priory steps in the end as dh had to work really late and we wouldnt have made it in time. I've promised myself a trip there another time. We went instead to www.donningtonvalley.co.uk instead - got there in just over an hour. I was so exhausted and frazzled, its a perfect place to just chill out with calm rooms and nice pool. There's a teeny castle nearby to walk to but beyond that I was quite happy just vegging out.
