Contemplating taking DS age 8 to Blackpool for the weekend in October to see the illuminations.
DH has happy childhood memories of same.
I haven't been to Blackpool for years but remember it was pretty run down last time I visited.
Also having difficulty getting booked in - vacancies at the Cliffs anyone stayed there?
Is there much else to see/do with an eight year old who isn't into theme parks-so no Pleasure Beach.'

We have taken a day trip up to Blackpool this week with dd, some of it is a bit run down, other parts are better and had a bit more money spent on it. It looks like they are building a new indoor water play centre near the pleasure beach.
Some of the games in the arcades will keep you both amused for a bit, the newest one is Coral Island near the tower, dome of the others are a bit more dated. There's also a Sealife Centre, and noticed a Madame Tussauds and Blackpool Dungeons though not sure what they are like. The zoo is about a mile from the promenade which might be worth a look.
