Torquay, Devon - without a car?

I have just booked a short break in Torquay, for the end of August. I may not be able to use car during that time. I will be travelling with my two children aged 5 and 10, and staying in a self catering apartment. I will be in the centre of Torquay, and hope to visit the model village, beach, and go for a steam train ride.

Are buses and trains good in Torquay, and are the above places easy to get to without a car? Is parking a problem in the centre? Or should I hire a car?
Thanks!

loads to do in Torquay and you wont need a car, we stayed in paignton and got around very easily by public transport.there are some lovely boat trips to do as well.

The no:12 but runs every 10 mins and will take you from Torquay to Paignton and Brixham. There are also regula busses to the model village etc. I recommend cockington as a place to visit, it's gorgeous. They have horse and carrage rides, thatched cottages and huge areas to play ball games or explore.
I hope you have a good time. Smile

I've just been in the holidays too. I used the buses regularly wth ds and found it very easy. Usually very adverse to public transport. Grin

Go to the zoo in Paignton too, its very good.
