Weekend break in August without going bankrupt

We need a weekend away, main holiday isn't until later in the year. We are looking for something within 2 hours of Berkshire, I quite fancy Isle of White, but everywhere seems to be adult only or very expensive. We don't have a tent, but I'm open about B&B, self catering etc. Any ideas? There will be 2 adults and a 2 year old

Have a look at some of the late getaway sites. we use lastminute-cottages.co.uk also have a look at the tourist board site. august is school holidays (as you will find out the horror of this in a few years time!) and decent places get booked up months in advance. also appartments etc want you to book for a week because it is peak time. if you went first week of Sept then it would be half the price.
