After Legoland for a few days, where can we go for a few days to fill the week, apart from London?

We will be going to Legoland for a couple of days and have the rest of the week to fill so rather than coming home what/where else can we go. Will be doing Windsor as part of LL and dont really want to go into London, so where else can we go for anotehr 2-3 days?

How old are your children? If still quite little there's a fab model village in Beaconsfield. I think its called Beaconscot. Also some good National Trust properties if you are a member.

I was going to suggest Windsor too, but Cat's beaten me to it!

I know you said not London, but Kew Gardens are worth a day out. Really fabbio

1 DS age 6. just fancy travelling on to somewhere staying a a travel/premier inn etc...

Go down to Portsmouth and visit the Historic ships, day trip to the Isle of Wight, Portchester Castle, Royal Armouries.

OOh yes, the dockyard at Portsmouth will keep you and DS busy for hours. He will love the Action Stations bit they've got there, with lots of hands-on stuff for DC's to do.

You could also go up the Spinnaker Tower if you have time. On a sunny day we like lunching at Pizza Express at Gunwharf Quays seafront and watching all the boats go by.

You can get a boat trip round Portsmouth Harbour where they point out all the battleships (not that there are many left now ) and all sorts of interesting stuff.

thank you for your suggestions...I think portsmouth is a little too far for us to travel back home to tell you the truth - midlands based.

So now Im thinking what about making way back home and stopping around Stratford, Birmingham way - any ideas???

Okay do spend some time in Windsor, ice cream by the river. Walk over to Eton (really interesting), maybe a boat trip.
Then on your way back drop into Beckonscot in Beaconsfield, we have travelled 1 1/2 hours to get there and loved it every time. Then I would also suggest stopping at Aylesbury and doing the local museum and the Roald Dahl place (which is very very different from normal museums).
We have also done the Cotswold Motor place (can't remember its name) at the end of the M40 ish.

I would head to the Cotswolds for a few days.

Stratford upon Avon is lovely, and also the surrounding villages.

Lots to do for kids eg Cotswolds Wildlife Park, Cotswolds Farm Park etc.

I am sure you will find a premier inn in that area.

Oxford? And lots of nice walks in the chilterns.

How about thorpe park as well? we used to prefer chessingotn, but in the last couple of years Thorpe Park is much improved. We have an annual pass for all merlin attractions and have been 4 times already this year and still not bored of it. My 5 yr old dd loves the smaller rides.
Also keep in mind that if you are going to LL in peak season you may not get everything doen in two days so might not have time to go into windsor.
Windsor is lovely to spend a day in, especially if its dry. lots of little shops, streets to explore, a very small fun fair down by the river. Boat rides down the thames. You can eat cheaply as well if you don't mind the chains as right outside Windsor castle there is a Nandos and a MacDonalds, also a weatherspoons. We've eaten in the Nando's a fair few times and hopefully this sunday as well. A fab cupcake shop as well.
