Super off peak train tickets

I do not use the train often. Making a longish journey in July with 2 children. Train at 2pm is super off peak, 2 changes and arrive at 6:20. That is the last super off peak journey for the day. What happens if the train is late and we miss a connection? Can we get on the next train even though it is not a super off peak train? Hope you get what I'm talking about!!

I'm worried about being stranded at Newport station!

I would buy your ticket in advance at the station to make sure you get a proper connecting ticket. Then I think you will be ok if the connection doesn't work.

Am pretty sure if your connection is delayed you would be fine.

Just wondering if you have a friends and family railcard - costs £28 I think for a year and gives v good discounts so you might save as much as its cost in one journey.

If you book online make sure you use one that doesn't charge a booking fee. East coast and virgin don't whereas the trainline does.

Some tickets are only valid for some trains or within certain hours so i would check before you buy.

If it is sold as one transaction should be all right though (don't buy tickets separately for each part or there could be a problem with late trains).

Thanks. I am going to buy Family railcard as I recoup the cost of it in this one journey. Also, we are planning a few trips to London over the summer.

I thought that if I bought the tickets in one transaction then it would be fine.

Have a quick search on MN - there was a link recently to a Daily Mail offer for a free 3 month family railcard.

I use redspottedhanky.com to book train tickets in advance or sometimes london midland if they have a special offer on. No booking fee for either and I am fairly sure that in the small print it says that if you book a whole joourney and miss a connection due to the first train being late you can get on the next one. It .is also generally cheaper to book in advance

Definately get a friends and family railcard too. I have one but got the free offer one as it means I can renew next year for half price. I saved my annual fee the first journey we made.
