I would think you are looking at North Devon - Croyde bay is supposed to be good.

Not sure if you can surf down in Camber? Never been but have been looking at holiday lets recently and looks like it could be a possibility.

Kimmeridge Bay just west of bournemouth is meant to be good (for uk) and also IOW, Compton Bay I think good and probably less crowded than Kimmeridge. I don't know about Camber but they hold surf contests there.

Hi,

you need to have a think about what conditions are like as well as proximity. Some places are not really suitable for beginners, or are very inconsistant surf wise [you don't want to get there and find there is no surf at all!]

Croyde is a great place to go as there are a number of beach breaks close by [Saunton / croyde bay / putsborough / Woollacombe] so if one is flat one of the others may have surf - and there are a lot of surf schools there.

It does get very busy during the summer so you'll need to book up quite quickly. There are lots of campsites, b&bs etc so it can be quite a cheap break.

There are a few places in Wales which are also really good, but does mean travelling a bit further

Hope they enjoy it!

Train from Paddington to Plymouth in under 4 hours with family railcard and check out magicseaweed website for places to surf nearby. Don't pick a weekend in school hols though or you won't find anywhere to stay easily. Lots of the beaches have surf schools associated with them now so why not surf the net (terrible pun!) by surf school!

Broadstairs has more than one surf school, and you can easily do the journey as a day trip.
