Hi everyone
has anyone had a self catering holiday in Anglesey? Is it nice? where should we stay (wed like to be near the beach).

what can we do there? are there rainy day activities? are the beaches sandy?

any advice welcomed Smile

I haven't been on holiday there but I lived there for three years, and am now just on the other side of the straits :) There are some very nice sandy beaches, Newborough is probably my favourite. When my parents come up to stay they often rent a cottage from this company: www.menaiholidays.co.uk/home and they've all been really nice.

(Rainy day) activities - there's the Sea Zoo and Pili Palas in Brynsiencyn and just near Menai Bridge respectively which are ok for children; there's also Foel Farm park but I've never been there so I don't know what it's like. Plas Newydd, near Menai Bridge is a rather nice National Trust property (stately home and garden - home has a cool mural that even kids who might otherwise think such a thing boring would probably enjoy) and on nice days they do boat trips on the Menai Strait as well from there. You can also do boat trips from Beaumaris out to Puffin Island - we saw puffins and loads of seals when we went last summer. There's of course the nearby castles (Beaumaris and Caernarfon) as well, both of which are very nice.

From Anglesey it's quite easy to get to Snowdonia if you like mountain walks and other such outdoorsy things, both by bus and by car.
