Would love recommendations of anywhere to stay self catering in central Scotland, so could base ourselves there for a week. Would like to be able to do day trips to Edinburgh/Glasgow and spend rest of the times on walks/cycles etc. There are 4 of us altogether. Thanks

We have stayed at www.clydevalleycottages.com before and had an excellent time did plenty of walking up Tinto hill and loads of geocaching in the area.

Forest holidays Strathyre site is lovely if you enjoy walking and cycling. Its about an hour outside Edinburgh and the lodges have hot tubs, there is a short cycle to an excellent child friendly pub and about 4 miles (flat ) cycling to Callander with a choice of cafes and restaurants.

I would have said Stirling area would be an ideal place to stay. I used to live in Edinburgh so know the area really well. Stirling is a fantastic place in its own right and the castle is fascinating - it is everything you would expect and more with stunning views over the battlefields. I know a self catering holiday cottage near there if that's what you are looking for with 2 bedrooms, play area and spa/hot tub.
