Just booked 4 nights next week in an old style ex lodge with sauna. So want it to be a good break, dh just finished 6 months trial chem and has surgery on Nov 1st. Cant afford the activities xs 3, but have booked bikes as part of early arrival package. Ant tips, recommendations please?

Its lovely :)
We dont really use bikes often while there. Highly recommend the spa if you can get there. Buy some logs before you go the ones there are costly and its so nice to have a log fire. Also buy food before you go, there is a little shop onsite but very costly.

Pool is open till 10pm so def go in the evening if you can and swim under the stars if DH is feeling upto it.

Some activities are cheaper first thing in the morning, so worth checking, we love bowling.

The lodges have everything you could need, dishwasher, mircowave, iron and board, bedding, good kitchin stuff.

Enjoy it. We are meant to be going in Dec all being well

loopyloops · 07/10/2010 23:34

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/10/2010 23:41

triplets · 07/10/2010 23:46

Thank you all..........Lisa how are things, hope you have some answers now? Swim under the stars, is there an outdoor pool? We are staying in Oak, is that far to the plaza etc?

OP posts:
triplets · 07/10/2010 23:47

Are they the special log type bricks that burn for about 3 hours?

OP posts:
lisad123isgoingcrazy · 07/10/2010 23:54

yes they are the 3 hour logs but they dont last that long and think they were £5 each last time.
There is parts of the pool that go outside but very warm and lovely to do :)
Oak is the furthest from the centre so will need your bikes as its about 10-15 min walk.

We are making the trip to Hammersmith hospital next week, we saw his normal doc yesterday, urgent referal sent today and call to say they will call with appointment tomorrow.

triplets · 08/10/2010 00:00

Hope everything goes ok for you next week, know the Hammersmith well, had my ivf there! Just been reading dreadful reviews on Elvedon on Tripadviser!

Triplets you really will have a lovely time.
So don't worry Smile
We have been to Elvedon a number of times and Longleat too.

(Shame we can not go anymore as dc are now in school and it is just too expensive for us in the school holidays Sad)

I would really suggest that when you get the timetable of what is available, the first thing you should do is circle all of the the kids events/activities that are free or less expensive.

I am not sure how old your children are, but the play areas are great and we often spent much of the day in the pool area as the dc loved it.

Really hope you have a great time - it sounds like it is well deserved.

triplets · 08/10/2010 00:13

Thank you, the children are all 12! One girl and two boys!

triplets · 08/10/2010 13:54

Hi........just phoned housekeeping at CP to ask for reassurance that all will be well, can`t afford dh sleeping in a room with mould! She was very nice and said that alot of people have phoned and admitted they had to do major cleans that there were problems. She said she would check our lodge herself and arrange a little surprise for us!:)

We have been to Elevedon twice and loved it.

My advice would be: take some of your own food, bring torches (for walking around at night), don't forget your swimming towels.

omnishambles · 08/10/2010 22:50

Its fine - dont worry about tripadvisor - I'm really picky and we always enjoy ourselves - can you save up for the treetop climbing thingy - the 12 year olds would love that.

The best restaurant is now the pub next to the spa - it used to be rubbish but is much improved.

Ds enjoyed the climbing wall and the rollerdisco as well.

triplets · 08/10/2010 23:00

Thank you both, really looking forward to it, if we get some sunshine it will be a bonus!

omnishambles · 08/10/2010 23:02

We always go when its cold and rainy - doesnt make much difference.

The only thing thats hard as a newby is the first day when you have to coordinate the getting in, and getting the car to the villa, unloading and getting back to the car park and getting the bikes.

triplets · 13/10/2010 22:50

Just to let you know we are having a fab time, villa is lovely, spacious, spotless, sauna and jacuzzi bath a treat. The whole place is very clean, friendly and safe, just wish we had more days as its taken me until today to wind down! Really love it!

OP posts:
triplets · 13/10/2010 22:51

Forgot to ask, do they offer any discounts if you book again within a certain period?

OP posts:
CDMforever · 14/10/2010 22:35

Elveden is lovely. The only down side is how much it costs!! We went in the summer hols for 4 nights, stayed in an executive villa, ate out every nite(I know, very extravagant) did just a few activities and the holiday cost approx £1700. Next week we are going to Butlins Ocean Hotel for 4 nights and most activities are free, we have already booked breakfast and dinner at the hotel (which people tell me is very nice)and its costing £515.Shock
I will report back after we get back. I know its going to be a completely different experience to CP with a very different clientele no doubt. We're hoping the DCs will love it so much they won't want to do CP next year! Otherwise we'll have to take out a second mortgage!

MaeMobley · 14/10/2010 22:39

CMD, pls do report back. I read a review on a blog of Butlins Ocean Hotel and it did not sound bad.

triplets · 14/10/2010 23:02

Last night here, just had a game of 10 pin bowling, £21 for 45 mins after 9.30pm. I thin if you can get a last min deal, we paid £419 for 3bed exec and really restrict yourself on eating out, expensive activities then its good value. Love the wildlife, watched a heron fishing today, then saw 2 deer! Would just like another day, its gone all too quickly!

OP posts:
MaeMobley · 14/10/2010 23:04

Triplets, that does sound good value.

triplets · 14/10/2010 23:16

Yes I thought so, kept an eye on the site and booked it last 5 days before we came!
