Help, we have just booked a holiday in Lanark, starting tomorrow and have not got a clue what there is to do in the area.
Can anyone reccomend any good days out. Also we would love to go on a whale watching trip, can anyone reccomend any that go from the west coast.

New Lanark is a must - historical mill site (more interesting than it sounds)!

Thanks for that PlanetEarth.

Has anyone else got any suggestions?

You can do whale watching trips from Mull (but you'd have to get there first!)

Also, there is (check it's still there) a puppet theatre in Biggar nearby that small DC might like.

There will be plenty of PYO in the Clyde Valley at the moment too.

Have a nice time - we had great weather in Glasgow today. Hope it stays nice for you.

Why Lanark? Am curious - lived there most of my life but not sure I would think of it as a holiday destination Grin

Having said that, New Lanark is (or was) the third largest tourist attraction after Glasgow and Edinburgh and worth a visit. Good walks up the waterfalls on the clyde and great wildlife. Badger watching from the Scottish Wildlife Trust Centre in New Lanark.

Lanark Auction Market on a Monday - go late morning/early afternoon to catch sheep and cattle auctions - earlier in morning for fruit and veg.

Lovely new swimming pool.

Train to Glasgow approx 40 mins

Corehouse estate in Kirkfieldbank for nice walks.

Purves Puppets in Biggar but also not been for a while so check they're still there.

Cinema 30 mins away in Hamilton or Coatbridge (better)

Edinburgh also a must - 1 hour away.

Hope you have a lovely holiday and you get this in time - let me know if I can help any more - I still visit the town regularly so know some useless stuff!
