Scotland in October?

Looking for recommendations on area to stay in October, somewhere outwith a city but still with some indoor things to do if the weather is wet. Not Edinburgh as we have been there many times.
Any ideas?

St Andrews? Sea Life Centre, Byre Theatre, Cinema, Swimming and Dundee if it's wet. Beach, crazy golf, castle and many more things if it isn't.

Stirlingshire is nice and within reach of lots of things to do.
