Christmas Breaks

I know it is ridiculously early but I have finally plucked up the courage to broach the subject of the festive season with my husband. Suffice to say his family are a bloody nightmare, he agrees and has said we (me
,him & dd) can go away. But where? We are on a tightish budget and looking to stay in the UK. Does anyone have any ideas?

Were you thinking hotel or self catering? I'd love a Christmas break in a hotel but they all seem to be hugely expensive. If you went self catering you could take lots of lovely M&S food that you could just bung in the oven. Any particular area you'd prefer?

I would prefer self catering, excellent idea for the food. My preferred places either lake district (away from his relatives) or Kent/ Sussex (close to my family). Think I might look into house swaps.
