Fun and engaging Year 2 tutor (not exam prep)

Hello,

Thank you in advance for any tips or recommendations.

I am looking for a Year 2 tutor in South West London for English and Maths (this could be two separate tutors). There is no need for exam preparation — just someone who can support my DC with her studies (she attends a selective prep school) in a fun and engaging way.

The tutoring must be face-to-face with home visits (not online) and ideally not excessively expensive (e.g. under £120 per hour). A teacher / ex teacher would be ideal.

Many thanks in advance.

At Year 2, it often helps to keep sessions feeling engaging and purposeful rather than like extra homework, especially if your child is already in a selective prep setting.

If she is bright but needs stimulation, the focus is usually less on “catching up” and should more be on stretching her thinking in a way that keeps her interested – for example through problem solving, discussion and creative tasks rather than repetition.

Children at this stage tend to respond best when they feel challenged but still confident, so the balance between support and stretch matters quite a lot :)
