GCSE Tutoring

Can anyone help me with a few questions please? My DD is approaching GCSEs and I'd like to book a tutor for maths and English. Based on mocks she is predicted high 4/5s in maths and 5/6 in English but I'd like to try to put her up to the next level if possible.

How soon should I start the sessions?
Is face to face preferable or online?
How many sessions should I book?

Any other advice?

Predictions are one thing - how did she do in the latest mocks?

It’s rather late in the day to only be considering tutoring now, as good tutors will be full. I would also caution against the cheaper end of the tutoring market, should there be availability, as this can do more harm in these final weeks. Look for a working secondary school teacher with plenty of experience, if available. If a grade 5 is in the slightest doubt, I’d go for 2 hour-long lessons per week, face to face.

@Softdressesandblouses high 4s in the most recent mocks. I did wonder if we might have left it a little late

Is she in year 11 now?

you’re very late in the day tbh. I’d make sure that she attends any revision session with school, practices lots of past papers and understands the mark schemes fully.

@Muchtoomuchtodo yes she's in year 11 now, she has been attending all of the school booster sessions and we've seen some improvements since the first round of mocks which is reassuring

Online will be better, just get a good online tutor

She's probably being put in for Foundation level maths, so can't get higher than a 5 anyway.

Hiya,
I don't know if you're still searching, but I can recommend Infinity Tuition- their website says it's Harrogate based, but they have online tutors so it doesn't matter where you're based :)
