Hi I am new to Altrincham, my son is in Y4, we are looking for a tutor to get him prepared for the 11+. Many of his classmates already started, hence the push. THere are so many of them, Kip McGrath, Kumon and there is a private one Sopia Cheshire Tutor.

Do you have any recommendations please? or anyone used any one of them before please? Hard to choose, they are similar in price...

many thanks

Very confused Mum

Newells. My fourth child is doing 11+ prep now (other 3 all passed) they also do mock exams. You need to get his name down though as there is usually a waiting list.

Hi @Movingmad !

I know a Tutor who has got a number of boys and girls into the Altrincham grammar schools. I will send contact details by PM when this service is up and running again.

We used Tayberry online for my daughter's 11+ this year, and she also did the Withington and MHSG exams too (she passed them all despite her primary school saying she wouldn't get in!)

I remember feeling exactly the same when my son was in Year 4—it’s so hard to know where to start with all the options! We went with a private tutor in the end, and she was fab. She really helped my son with his confidence and made sure he actually enjoyed the sessions (which is a miracle in itself!).

I’ve heard mixed things about Kip McGrath and Kumon—some parents swear by them, but others say they’re a bit too structured. If you’re looking for something more tailored, I’d recommend checking out https://lessonwise.org/11-plus-tuition/. They’ve got some great tutors who really know their stuff.

Good luck—it’s a bit of a minefield, but you’ll figure it out! 😁

thank you so much for the input. I am getting stressed about it, as all the other mums in the class started to have tuitions for the children, I feel I am very behind...I know what you mean about the chains...they can be a bit robotic...I will use the website to have a look and try a few ...hoping I can lock down one soon and at least to give it a go. Really appreciate your help and time. Very grateful really. 🙏

thanks so much for sharing. will explore Tayberry too...think the school teachers cant be a bit negative and not realising the potentials of students once being pushed a bit more.

Well done to your daughter, what a great results...nerve cracking for me to think they have to go through these tests ...

Choice Home Tutoring https://www.choicehometutoring.co.uk/ we used them a few times and they were really really good at making sure the tutors ‘fit’ the child. Would definitely recommend

We used Tayberry for Trafford 11plus for all 3 children in our family and they all passed - DD has carried on with them and has creative writing lessons as she enjoys it so much.
