DD is in year 5 and we have a tutor . Up until not she was doing the 11+ stuff with her ( bond/cpg books ) but we have decided to not take the test.

I would like to continue Tuotion however.

Im thinking of asking the tutor to do whatever school is doing , for example area/perimeter but get DD to really understand it and push her to do work above her level too ?

What does everyone think ? Any tutors on here with advise please ?

Thank you

Assuming your tutor is a qualified teacher, experienced in assessing and planning lessons then I'd ask them to do exactly that and you shouldn't need to have a lot of input. It might help the tutor to know what school is working on or which scheme they follow e.g white rose, maths no problem etc.

I get lots of requests to do general English and maths for a given year group. I just assess the child, fill gaps and increase confidence.

I would allow the tutor to plan the work, they will know what needs to be done. A reputable tutor will do an (informal) assessment so they can find out the areas to focus on.

If the teacher is qualified then he/ she will know how to assess and to fill in the gaps but also if you say what they are working on at school then s/he can work on this specifically and increase your child‘s understanding, so yes that will be of great benefit. It is what I do as an online tutor and the increase in confidence, skills and understanding is amazing. Best wishes

I would ask the tutor to stretch your dd and trust her to formulate a sensible sow.
