How did you start tutoring?

Hello tutors,

I am thinking of becoming a tutor. I have a degree in English but no teaching qualifications (though have worked in education for 20 years). My DS has various SEN so I have learned a lot along the way in terms of supporting a child with dyslexia/ADD etc

Any suggestions as to useful qualifications towards tutoring English and or dyslexia tutoring? Do I need qualifications?

Do you go out to homes or do they come to you? What about DBS checks/your own safety?

You could always see if there is a tutor school nearby. I did this for a few months in between jobs. It was called Kip McGrath. There are also online tutoring groups too.
