Neither for reception age.

Have you spoken to your son’s teachers to find out what you should being doing at home to help him? Extra tutoring shouldn’t be necessary at reception age.

I wouldnt use eigter. They're formulaic systems that are just druven to make money.

If you ever needed a boost Id use a real life tutor for a set period with some set goals...BUT

One of the things I hate about current education is reporting in terms of "age related expecrarions." About 1/3 (?) Fail this so parents are given the impressuon their child is failing. Its the reporting thats wrong. Teachers know children develop at different rates. A friend who was "below" all theough infants found her feet in juniors and went to Grammar. Now mine are in juniors youd be hard pressed to tell who was reading at which stage or Reception/year 1. A bit like it no longer being important at what age they crawled, but it seemed it at the time.

I would speak to the teacher and see what they mean exactly. You don't want to put the child off by attendkng more school out of school. Especially not one so formulaic instead of child centred. Can you read to them, discuss shopping and dividing up toast intohalf, which teddy isnthe tallest etc. Often this real life application is a better way to learn then anyway.

I would read to him, just take 5 mins out a few times a week. sit down and read together. go over some phonics flashcards- you can easily purchase them from Amazon. Don't go for tutors yet.
