Informing the school

My DS12 yr 8 is struggling with maths. (He's like a lemming off a cliff!) He's at a prep school should I inform the teacher I'm planning on getting a tutor ?

You can if you wish. Does the tutor want to communicate with school? I know some will wish to speak to teachers to find out how they can work together and others don’t bother
