Higher Education Tuition

My son has just finished his first year at university studying Psychology and he is sure that he has failed several modules, mainly down to the fact that he has not been focused enough on his studies. Has anyone had any experiences with tutors or agencies that specialise in tutoring for university students?

Psychology is absolutely not my area, but I'm an ex-university senior lecturer turned teacher turned tutor and I do cover tuition for (selected parts of) university education in my subject area.

However, have you tried "The Profs" www.theprofs.co.uk/ who specialise in University level tuition? They are London based, but tutors do also tutor online too (using Zoom, I believe). A few full-time tutors I know do work for them and they seem to have a good reputation.

Psychology is a bit like the marmite of the academic world - you either love it or hate it. There are some unexpected areas too such as statistics and neuroscience which throw some students. I have seen perfectly able students who just haven't gelled with the subject. Are you sure it is due to lack of studying rather than the subject? It might be worth checking that he is still happy with the subject. It is fairly hard to fail level one. Level two will be more challenging.

No help with tutors but a postgraduate in his department might be willing to do some tutoring. They will have the benefit of knowing the department.

NoBetterName Yes I have heard about The Profs both on here in another thread in the Higher Education Channel and offline from friends, it sounds like they have quite the reputation. I will be contacting them today, hopefully, they can help.

Our tutor was amazing, a bit pricing but worth it as if he had failed what would the cost be :)

I had issues with grades in my first year studying psychology because I just didn't get how to write and what was really wanted from an answer a lot of the time. I actually found going through the essays with the lecturer who set it was the best way to get a feel for what had been wanted (and different lecturers can want entirely different things too due to the sheer variation in subject matter!)

I tutor higher education students in psychology and other subjects. First tutors, where I advertise, is a good place to look for help because registered tutors have to provide evidence of ID and qualifications to the agency.
