Making a Murderer and The Staircase are both the kings/queens of this genre imho.

Pootle40 · 21/09/2023 12:19

Morally Indefensible which is a podcast and documentary about the Jeffrey MacDonald case (killed his wife and two kids on army base in 1970). He claims he didn't. Think was Sky Crime.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 21/09/2023 15:22

When Missing turns to Murder on Netflix is very watchable imo.

Wehavealaughdontwe · 21/09/2023 15:29

The girl in the picture
What's wrong with Aunt Diane?
Dear Zachary
The Murdaugh Murders

The Keepers is one of the most absorbing docs I’ve ever seen. It’s on Netflix. Also, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark about the Golden State Killer and Michelle McNamara who spent years tracking him down.

omgsally · 21/09/2023 22:55

Faking it, which analyses the police interviews with notorious criminals.

Luno · 21/09/2023 22:58

Making a murderer is the best. I also just finished the Murdaugh murders. Both Netflix I think.

MaudGone · 21/09/2023 23:54

The BIble John series on the BBC was very good. It's gone off Iplayer now, unfortunately.

FourStringsNoWaiting · 15/10/2023 15:19

That's tonight's viewing sorted - thanks @MaudGone

Yep this. Plus The Jinx. Out of the hundreds of documentaries I’ve watched over the years, these three will always come out on top.

I’m just watching Myth of the Zodiac Killer on Sky Atlantic. It’s fascinating.

Omg that man is the epitome of evil! The way he committed those murders was so unbelievably brutal and how he managed to even convince his father-in-law that he was innocent. But not only was his version of events utterly implausible (hippies saying "acid is groovey" 🧐) the blood evidence in that case is absolutely beyond doubt. There is zero doubt in that case that he is guilty of one of the most horrific murders ever.

XelaM · 15/10/2023 21:59

I was "Still Missing Morgan" on Disney recently - such an unbelievably sad case. It's about Morgan Nicks who went missing aged 6 from a Little Leagues baseball game.

Just to add "A Wilderness of Errors" on Prime is a good documentary about the Jeffrey MacDonald case.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 15/10/2023 22:08

Seconding The Keepers, so absorbing and still an open case

desikated · 15/10/2023 22:12

The keepers is absolutely amazing. Sins of our mother is good. Bible John. The murdaugh murders is good and they've just released a second series..as it were.

MaudGone · 15/10/2023 22:24

If you wanted to follow up on the Bible John documentary, there's an accompanying podcast which goes into much more detail. It's "Bible John - Creation of a Serial Killer" on BBC Sounds.

coffeorbust · 16/10/2023 23:04

American Murder, The Family Next Door is literally the most disturbing thing I've ever seen.

coffeorbust · 16/10/2023 23:17

Forgot to say, it's on Netflix

desikated · 17/10/2023 19:40

Oh yes family next door is really good / incredibly chilling
