my dd's early learning centre trike got nicked - debating whether to replace with the same again, or get a scooter instead. she seems quite keen on other kids' ones and it would take up much less space. what age can toddlers scoot along on them? and if not, will i get enough use of the trike to be worth replacing? i do find it useful as dd is a bit of a buggy refusenik unless sleepy.

if it doesn't have to be new have you asked on freecycle? I tried a few weeks ago in case any being rehomed but noone replied and then in fact dd was given one by a friend from nursery as his sister had outgrown it. (it.s a mini microscooter which is def better than anything else i looked at in shops. ) I took dd to a toy shop to test drive scooters when wasn't sure if she'd be able to scoot yet. She's 3 but I know a competent 22 month old on the same scooter as her.

We have an iscoot which is fabulous. DD1 had it for her 3rd birthday - had left it until than as she was very unco-ordinated!

DD2 - aged nearly 17 months - can already ride it around the kitchen!

It is particularly good as you steer by leaning instead of turning handles - strange if you are used to normal steering but much easier for little people. It also has 2 front wheels and one back wheel so is self-balancing. DD1 lives on it!

DD2 will get her own soon...

Got it from an ebay shop and highly recommend it.
