Ds would like a Chemistry elements kit

Ds is very keen on chemistry - not experiments as such, more learning about the elements, protons neutrons etc

I was under the impression it is possible to buy a set of balls and connecting sticks especially made for making models of elements etc

But searching t'web has proved fruitless - can anyone help? Perhaps googling 'chemistry sticks and balls' is not precise enough!!!!

And yes he/I know we could make such things with straws and plastacine but he would love to have a proper set designed for the purpose for his birthday

Can't you just use geomag? These are balls and sticks that are held together by magnets and they do the job.

I think the ball and stick kits are not for making element models (ie models of nuclei and electrons) but are used for making models of organic molecules (things with carbon in - ethane, ethanol etc) similar to this.

How old is your son?

this and other things on this website might be good? Or try the science museum shop?

Ahh I have found this now... just as you were finding something very similarsame as your suggestion C&C reviews cuggest that they are tricky to fit together even for an adult, but that can be a good thing as it means they wont fall apart!

That curious minds website looks really good - Ill have a look in a mo!

And yes C&C you are right these kits are molecular model kits rather than elements - Can you tell I wasnt great at chemistry at school?!?!?

Belle - ds had a go at that earlier and declared geo mag not up to the job, they dont stay as a 3d model, plus the balls arent different colours.
