ds wants a ds!

I've said I'm not buying him one (he's nearly 8) but he wants to save up for one. That's fine by me. It'll take him a very long time!

But I did say I would do the research so he knew what his target is. But I don't know which one he should get. the dsi seems good, but v expensive, the dslite looks fine, but is much cheaper, and I don't know why. The new dsxl looks, well, just bigger.

Also, do the games work on all types of ds? So if he had one sort of ds could he swap games with a friend who had another sort.

I'm so ignorant about them, but I did promise to find out.

Aha. My DS, who's also nearly eight, saved up for two years (b'day money, Christmas money, scraps of money etc) to buy a DSLite. However, he now has to save up for some games. He completed the game that came with it in about two days, and hasn't touched it since...

The dsi is newer, and has a camera, so that's why it costs more than the ds which has been around a while.

I think the games are interchangeable.

dsi can hook up to wifi(I think) and has a camera, ds lite is the standard one which can link to other ds for multiplayer games and dsxl is latest one, has a bigger screen but only 2 colours. Most games are interchangeable at the moment

we have 3 ds's. They are great, we also have R4 cards for them & download all the games (illegal I know). its not illegal to buy the cards, you can google them, but obviously it is illegal to download the games.

uggmum now I'm really baffled.

Can you translate your last post into English?

What sorts of ds's do your dc have?

I only ask because the dslite seems to be less than £100, and the dsi is about £150. I don't think ds would use a camera and it would take him about 6 months to get the extra £50. But I don't want him to 'waste' his money on the less good one if he will always regret it.

I think a ds lite is more than adequate for that age. The R4 card works by downloading copies of games ie. risk breeching copyright rather than buying separate game cartridges
