XBox or Playstation?

I have no experience of XBoxes or Playstations but am starting to think about one or other for DS. Don't want a Wii as have relative who lives close by who has one that he can play on. What are the merits of one over the other - do they basically do the same things? Am I inviting another screen addiction into the household or do you think I should embrace the 21st century?

In terms of machine the Xbox is slightly more advanced, however I am a Playstation fan my self as the Xbox tends to prefer mostly 3rd person action games and 1st person action games where has Playstation has more platform games and r.p.g and is generally a more well rounded computer. IMO it seems to be in between the Wii and Xbox giving you the best of both worlds. Xbox is mostly a man's console IMO the controllers are really hard to hold for smaller hands and has a lot of the old arcade games.

Really it depends on what sort of games your son likes. But I would recommend paying the extra for the less energy consuming model as this will save you loads on electric.

i love our ps3 it has games that we can all play. dd likes Little big planet and the lego games, I like Ratchet and Clank (and lego!) dh likes the driving games.

We also use it to play blu-ray dvds.

xbox has the platforms too - most games are designed for all consoles now anyway tbh.

I love the xbox, have always preferred it over the ps (or the wii). They have started up being able to rent films etc on it now too.

The only thing I opt for the PS over the Xbox would be singstar and buzz tbh.
