Going round in circles as to whether to get a traditional type like this - not portable but they learn to switch lenses etc, plus can be linked to phone. (Would rather not use phone)

or this newer type which has same zoom, is portable with a screen and images that can be downloaded etc (avoids phone use)

is the flexibility actually more fun and worthwhile? it’s also half the price!

My child has something similar to the second one so it's portable and it's great because they can explore with it, take it outside and look at tree bark, leaves, even bugs!

Thanks, I’ve gone for that one on reflection!

From your link. Thank you!

Ahh I hope he enjoys it! That’s what I’ve decided on. I think I would have loved it as a child

I’m hoping to buy him a fossil and some gem stones too

Well the second linked microscope is a huge hit - it’s so simple and easy use. 1000 is slightly grainy but clear enough to be fascinating. Can take pics and videos.

The ease of use and portability make it so quick and easy use for taking out and about, and both children able to see that I think as an intro to micro scopy that’s the main benefit over a more traditional type where you’d have to take your things home. I can see that being a good next step when a little older, after the bug has been caught.

comes with some slides with bits of fly etc on too!

It really depends on how your 7-year-old likes to explore! If portability and ease of use are key, we’ve had great feedback on our U-Zoom One Microscope. It’s kid-friendly, doesn’t need a phone or screen, and offers real 20x–40x magnification. Super handy for outdoor adventures or tabletop discoveries. Might be a nice middle ground!
