Hello, we are thinking of getting a 100 piece set of these for our nephew's birthday. From experience, can anyone guide us as to whether the original Magna Tiles are better quality than other brands we've seen available please?

Hi, OP. We can see you haven't had any responses yet in Chat, so we'll move your thread to our Toys & Games board now, in the hope that another MNetter or two may have something to offer there...

I've never tried other brands but ds has been playing with it for 3 years now. It's the only thing he consistently plays with and it's the only toy that deserves the money I've paid.

We have just got some Connetix. I did some research quite a while back and they seemed to come out top - can't remember exactly why though.

How old is your nephew? My DC is 6 and is really enjoying them.

Onlyforaday · 11/11/2024 07:32

Thank you for moving my thread and for the responses Smile My nephew is 4.
I will check out the alternative brand too. Is the 100 piece set enough to do plenty with?

We have a mixture of tiles and they are all good. Some branded and some not.

They are a very satisfying toy to pack away!

Onlyforaday · 11/11/2024 09:18

Ha ha, my sister tells me that's a big plus! Are the different brands compatible then?

We have 2 sets of these and they are played with on a daily basis. We also bought the ball run extension (different brand) which is fab! As long as the dimensions of the tiles are the same size, then they should all be compatible with each other.

These look to be good value. Thinking of buying two sets to start with. Thank you.

We've had the Magnatiles branded ones for about 7 years now and they are still in perfect condition. They are the only toy that our DC still play with most days so a good investment for us.

Onlyforaday · 14/11/2024 15:45

As recommended by Cindy above, I've received the tiles today and, if the packaging is anything to go by, they look to be a really good buy.
Thanks again everyone who commented Smile

Following with interest. Does anyone know if the genuine Magnatiles brand are compatible with the “magnetic tiles” made by Smyths ?

eg are the genuine Magnatiles brand compatible with these ones:

Cindy1802 · 22/11/2024 14:00

@Chewsday look at the dimensions of the tiles. As long as they are the same size, my understanding is that they will be compatible. Ultimately magnets are magnets, no matter what the brand is! So as long as they are the same size they should stick together. I have 2 sets, each a different brand but same dimensions.

Chewsday · 22/11/2024 14:02

Unfortunately I can’t see how big the Smyths ones are from their website, hence the question 🙂
