Metal detector

My five year old daughter would like a metal detector for her birthday. She is a budding detective and loves to find things.

I’ve read you can’t use them on land without permission so it feels like a wasted gift. Has anyone had one before and if so did you use it use it and where?

That's true, but a child's metal detector isn't going to find much anyway (unless you bury it for them!)

Just don't do it on National Trust or English Heritage land, or a Scheduled Monument.

I think if anyone saw a five year old with a metal detector in a park or beach they are unlikely to report it, and even if they did she would only spend a few years in prison and would be out in time to take her SATS or 11-plus. 🤞

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles this really made me laugh and was the reality check I needed.

I am definitely over thinking this aren’t I. Thank you.
